Victor Yushchenko told reporters Monday he would consult experts and scientists before making a final decision to build a port near Lake Donuzlav, according to the President’s press-office. He then asked Secretariat officials to substantiate his decision, which he is going to make in ten days.

He said Gennadiy Moskal, his Crimean representative, had given him papers with expert evaluations and reiterated his decision would benefit both the Crimean community and the peninsula.

Then the President spelled out his vision of Crimea’s future, saying the autonomy should more actively use its huge potential.

“Everything we do should be used to benefit the territory and the state. I will willingly support such decisions,” he said.
