Victor Yushchenko has called on Kyiv’s political parties to find compromises and unite to resolve the capital’s problems, according to the President`s press-office.

The President said he had suggested a few "directions of work" for 2007-2008 at a recent meeting with Kyiv’s Mayor Leonid Chernovetsky.

“I think negotiations and a dialogue to accept these ideas are starting now,” he told reporters on Friday.

Mr. Yushchenko said “no harmony has been achieved so far in Kyiv’s government, which makes the city and its residents suffer.” He characterized the mayor’s decision to raise utility tariffs threefold as "overly optimistic."

“Today I want to urge the city’s authorities, especially Leonid Chernovetsky, to recalculate the tariffs again,” he said.
