The appointment of Victor Slauta as the Deputy Prime Minister for Agricultural-Industrial Complex issues will increase the influence of the Party of Regions on the agricultural sector. AAA Consulting Agency analytical department chief Maria Kolesnyk said this to UNIAN.

According to M.Kolesnyk, incumbent Agricultural Policy Minister Yuri Melnyk is not a member of the Party of Regions, and was appointed to the government on the quota of another party. Meanwhile, the agricultural complex in Ukraine “has always been rich”, and one cannot rule out that the Party of Regions wants to supervise the distribution of means in this field.

However, the expert noted, it is hard to assess the appointment of V.Slauta as the agricultural DPM, as he has not made any clear statements on the pressing issues of the branch – the grain export quotas, the situation with sugar, and the like. In addition, this appointment may be connected with quotas, as the introduction of them was not justified, so a person to solve the situation is necessary.

As UNIAN reported, on 8 February the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine appointed Victor Slauta as the Deputy Prime Minister for Agricultural-Industrial Complex of Ukraine.
